The Wellington Monument Bert King Memorial Road Race is hosted and organised by the club, usually on the last Sunday before Christmas, so this year on Sunday 22nd December 2019. It is a hugely important event for the club, as it brings in much needed funds. The race is run over 6.27miles (10,090m) incorporating 1654 metres of bridle path. It starts at The Catherine Wheel Public House in the village square at Hemyock, and finishes at Hemyock County Primary School. It is open to all aged 16 years or over on race day, but unfortunately the course is unsuitable for wheelchairs. The race is well-marshalled and there are toilets and changing facilities but unfortunately no showers.
The John Cooksley Memorial Team Challenge Shield is open to teams of four (including mixed teams), and there are awards for overall male and female winners, and for the first local and Junior male and female runners, plus individual prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd men and lady runners. All finishers receive a finisher award, a mince pie and mulled wine.
News and updates will be posted on this Taunton AC site and also on Facebook @WellingtonMonumentRace
Results from past years are available here. Races in 2009 and 2010 were cancelled due to bad weather.
