In what we believe is a first for a Taunton AC athlete, Hannah Taunton broke the T20 5000m world record at the recent British Championships, held at the Manchester Regional Arena, and broadcast live on BBC2.  She was taking advantage of an invitation from British Athletics to take part, given the lack of competitive races this season, and she repaid the selectors' faith in a big way!

It was a gruelling run from gun to tape, but Hannah was always ahead of the time needed to break the world record, and her achievement was announced by stadium commentator Geoff Wightman within seconds of her crossing the line in 17.17.30.  Hannah is now officially the world record holder - no T20 woman in the history of athletics has ever run 5000m faster!
