SEREN FINISHES SEVENTH FOR GB!

Many, many congratulations to Seren Rodgers on finishing seventh  in the Heptathlon, representing GB at the European Under 18 Championships in Jerusalem.  On her way to a personal best points tally of 5324 points, she collected personal bests in four of the seven events!

Day one started with disappointment in the 100m hurdles.  Normally a strong event for Seren, she clattered three hurdles on her way to posting a time of 15.17, way below her personal best.  But she quickly put that disappointment behind her for the high jump, where she cleared 1.66, setting her first PB of the competition.  It was quickly on to the shot put, where she threw a highly respectable 11.73, before finishing day one with another personal best, this time in the 200m, where she posted a time of 25.16.

Day two started with the long jump competition, another strong event for Seren, and she didn't disappoint, setting another personal best of 5.92.  Now on something of a roll, the penultimate event of the Heptathon is the javelin, where she set another lifetime best, throwing 36.43.  A solid performance in the final event, the 800m, saw her finish seventh overall, with a personal best points tally of 5324.

Before the championship started, Seren was ranked 14th in Europe, so to finish seventh is a magnificent achievement.  Realistically, going in to the championships, she was hoping maybe to finish tenth, but a string of lifetime bests saw her exceed even her own expectations.  Many, many congratulations Seren - you will have inspired a whole host of young Taunton AC athletes, and many congratulations too to her coach Steve Shaw.  A real feather in the cap for both of you!
