ABBY'S PB AT BRITISH CHAMPS!
Taunton AC athlete Abby Hughes produced a personal best when she competed in the British Athletics Senior Championships that took place at the Manchester Regional Arena at the weekend.
Abby who is still only 15 was competing in the 5K adult race walk on Saturday morning and was the youngest by at least two years. However, despite her youth she covered the distance to finish a very creditable seventh out of the field of nine with her best ever time of 27 minutes 16 seconds.
The young athlete has made remarkable progress in this event, considering she only started race walking a short time ago.
Afterwards Abby said: "What an amazing experience to compete in my first ever Muller British Athletics Championships. It was great to compete as a senior and gain a 5K track PB in this event."
Steve Shaw, who coaches Abby at Taunton AC said: "This was a really good result for Abby who was by far the youngest competitor in the race. To produce her PB in this situation is really impressive. In addition, Abby was only one of two athletes who didn’t receive a warning during the race."
